The Light of North Light Ministry

The Light of North Light Ministry Sept/Oct Newsletter Oct 5, 20205 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” — John 8:12 As the days grow shorter and the sunlight fades earlier, we feel the shift of the season. Darkness settles in a little sooner each day. In many ways, life can feel like that too — there are seasons when the light seems dim, when progress feels slow, and when hope feels just out of reach. As the fall season settles in, we’re reminded that even when the days grow shorter, the Light of Christ never fades. His presence continues to guide, sustain, and illuminate our path as a ministry and as a community.  Jesus reminds us, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) The light that guides North Light Ministry isn’t dependent on our energy, our success, or our abilit...

Summer: A Season of Growth

Summer: A Season of Growth In the fall of 2022, I was in the midst of uncertainty. There had been unexpected changes and turmoil. It felt like being in the middle of a storm, cloudy and hard to navigate. I couldn’t see through it—but God could! During that time, I was reminded that even the hard places in life can have purpose. In fact, difficult seasons are often perfectly suited to help us grow and prepare us for what’s ahead. The words of Isaiah 54:2, “enlarge your tent…”  became a grounding promise. I was being stretched and shaped for something new. In 2024, as North Light Ministry moved into the Rapid City neighborhood, all we had was a tent. It became our way of being present with the community during local events. When people asked where we were located, we’d smile and say, “Right here—in the tent.” 2025 R.C. Heritage Festival Parade Two- Tent Set-up: Serving Smoothies This summer, during the 2025 Rapid City Heritage Festival, we set up the tent again to serve smo...

North Light Ministry – The Filling Station Project Isaiah 58:6–12 “If you offer yourself to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted one, then your light will shine in the darkness, and your night will be like noonday. The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones.” — Isaiah 58:10–11 (CSB) What happens when we take God at His word—and build something in the middle of a small town that reflects His heart? Isaiah 58 paints a picture of what happens when we not only worship God with our lips, but walk out His love with our lives. It’s a call to compassion that goes deeper than charity. It’s about showing up, day after day, to satisfy the afflicted, loose the bonds, share bread, and be present in the brokenness of the world. This is what we feel called to do in Rapid City, MI. The Vision: A Ministry Space for Real People in a Small Town Since January, we’ve been serving the Rapid City community in practical, simple ways through Community Coffee Hour. W...

North Light Ministry – Clearwater Township/Rapid City, MI “Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep... For the Lord has called you…” — from Isaiah 54:2–6 When God begins something new, He often calls us to stretch beyond comfort , beyond the familiar, and beyond what seems possible. This Scripture has been a quiet, steady companion as we've prayed, walked the streets of Rapid City, and dreamed about what ministry could look like in this small Northern Michigan town. We've sensed this call to "enlarge the tent," not to build something flashy or fast, but something deep, rooted, and responsive to the needs of this community. North Light Ministry began with the simple desire to be present, to listen, and to offer meaningful connection in a community that matters deeply to God. Over the last several months, that vision has started taking root in real ways. A Cup of Coffee, ...
