Summer: A Season of Growth

In the fall of 2022, I was in the midst of uncertainty. There had been unexpected changes and turmoil. It felt like being in the middle of a storm, cloudy and hard to navigate. I couldn’t see through it—but God could! During that time, I was reminded that even the hard places in life can have purpose. In fact, difficult seasons are often perfectly suited to help us grow and prepare us for what’s ahead. The words of Isaiah 54:2,“enlarge your tent…” became a grounding promise. I was being stretched and shaped for something new.

In 2024, as North Light Ministry moved into the Rapid City neighborhood, all we had was a tent. It became our way of being present with the community during local events. When people asked where we were located, we’d smile and say, “Right here—in the tent.”

Two- Tent Set-up: Serving Smoothies

This summer, during the 2025 Rapid City Heritage Festival, we set up the tent again to serve smoothies and offer hospitality to our neighbors. During a lull in orders, I finally sat down to catch my breath. I looked up, and what did I see? I saw anexpanded tent - literally. We had a second tent. An expanded space. In that quiet moment, I was reminded of God’s love for the people of Rapid City, and the stretching it took to reach this moment.

And He isn’t done yet. We at North Light Ministry feel God’s deep love for this community, and the call to bring hope, healing, and health in lasting ways. He is now stretching our faith toward a permanent building, one that will allow us to minister daily in a multitude of ways.

Now, we sense God inviting us to put down deeper stakes—establishing lasting roots in the heart of Rapid City. The tent allowed us to show up with presence and love, but a permanent space will let us grow our reach and deepen our impact. The Filling Station will be more than a building. It will be a place where people experience belonging, find connection, receive prayer, share stories, and discover hope. A space for conversation over coffee, support in hard times, spiritual renewal, and everyday acts of love.
